- Download Standard AHCI Controller Driver via Device Manager. Go to Device Manager. Aim at and expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller and right click the Standard SATA AHCI Controller to Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Windows 10 searches for the updated driver on your PC and online.
- I wondered about this for awhile too, however I think it is distributed through microsoft now. Device manager shows AMD SATA AHCI controller and driver provided by AMD. The two standard controller are the two extra controllers I have for esata and 2 extras not on SB.
In UEFI or BIOS, find SATA settings to select the mode for memory devices. Switch them to AHCI, save settings and restart the computer. After the restart, Windows will start installation of SATA drivers, and when it is over, it will ask you for another restart. Do it, and AHCI mode in Windows will be enabled. Download the latest drivers for your Standard SATA AHCI Controller to keep your Computer up-to-date.
AMD Sata Controller drivers stutter for anyone?
EDIT: I think i figured out my issue. It was a) board sensor bug with hwinfo64 b) temps because i hit 100c on a badly mounted spire during p95, now with 120mm AIO i only just breach into 78c tops OCed

I noticed insane stuttering with this driver. no matter if 2015 or 2017 version, i even tried to upgrade via driver booster, so i device manage'd and set back downgrade to the Microsoft AHCI driver. What did AMD think to still include this in AMD Chipset Drivers pack in latest march 2k18 i have no idea. I had a horrible 'pause' stutter while playing music on headphones loud, it was a horrible shaky feeling :(
NOTE: I am not writing this up to troll, or slag off AMD, i am a mostly happy user of AMD h/w on PCs, i just wanted to bring up a very small discussion if anyone even noticed this alone from me.
Obviously i will always untick this but what is the point of this driver if it only is worse than Microsoft's AHCI. Even some AMD dude at some point, IIRC, said that Windows 10 already has SATA drivers okay for Ryzen chipsets. This really can cause a horrible view of ryzen not being so 'stutter-free' as it really is, because i reproduced this problem with Biostar Racing X370 and ASUS Crosshair VI Hero and B350-Prime Plus. I reckon the only reason why anyone has no stutter with this specific driver inside the chipset package, is certain OEM boards with the specific SATA controllers with automatic settings, that do not interfere with the buffer. Again, i would not recommend installing this, untick it!

SATA is the new standard for communication between a computer system and hard drives, CD and DVD drives, etc., and replaces the slower IDE standard. However, many people do not realize that SATA comes in two flavours: AHCI mode, or 'real' SATA mode, and a form of IDE emulation over the SATA bus. Windows XP does not have native support for AHCI. Booting the Windows XP Professional x64 CD actually bluescreens when AHCI mode is enabled from the BIOS.
When AHCI is disabled in the BIOS, booting Windows works just fine, but as soon as you try to install AHCI drivers for your chipset they fail - because no AHCI support is detected, since it's disabled. When you reboot and enable AHCI support in the BIOS, Windows dies early in the boot process because it can no longer read from its installation partition, since it doesn't have AHCI drivers.

The ugly and unfortunate truth: the only way to properly install AHCI support for many chipsets involves registry editing. In effect, you're doing a hack job temporary manual installation of the drivers for Windows to load so that you can have the drivers install properly.

NOTE: These instructions are probably correct for XP and Vista. However, for Windows 7 there appears to be a different method, at least for x64 Win 7. The problem with using this method described here with Windows 7 is that AMD does not make an ahcix64.sys driver for the SB600 chip under Windows 7. They do make an AHCI driver, called amdsata.sys, but rather than adapting this procedure for that driver, a simpler procedure works. There is a need for a separate page for Windows 7 installations on this chip.
